Excerpt from
The Sacred Art of Africa by author Samuel Akainyah

In the 1600's the Duke of York formed "The Company of Royal Adventurers of England." Its mission was to raid Africa for slaves. He branded his slaves with the letters D.Y. to display their royal ownership. Accordingly, they could be killed by merely attempting
to escape. This cowed the slaves into abject submission.

By 1620, the expansionst ambitions of the English Colonies of North America was met by the arrival of the African slave who onerously developed the cotton economy of the South. Today, this man is a minority.
