ANTHONY BURKS

was born to Jimmy and Florence Burks in Lake Worth, Florida on December 18, 1967. As a youth growing up in Palm Beach County, he has always had a strong desire to be an artist: primarily an illustrator.

While attending high school, one of his art teachers introduced Anthony to a number of different media including his trademark medium, the color pencil. His teacher recognized a special style and technique in Anthony that needed to come forward. He has been perfecting this technique since 1983 and continues to do so while experimenting with other media including pen and ink and watercolor.

Anthony enrolled in college and earned several grants and scholarships from different organizations. While attending school, he won many awards and contests including Best of Show, the school's annual art show.
Two months after graduating, Anthony was immediatley employed by Baron Signs Manufacturing where he presently works as an on staff artist. He has also been hired as a freelance artist for several agencies including Beverly Bean Associates, Graphicline Advent Advertising. He has also worked with quite a few local organizations including Delta Sigma Theta sorority; The Urban League and the Children's Coaltion where he is presently teaching inner city youth juvenile justice children appeciation of the arts.

He has been able to exhibit at many ocal galleries. some of Anthony's exhibitions include a show at "Gallery One" in Sarasota, Florida, "123 Gallery" in West Palm Beach, Florida, "I Am Art & Image" in Lauderhill, Florida, "African Art Galleria" in Boca Raton, Florida and "The African American Art Gallery" in Lake Park, Florida.

Strong in detail, rich in color Anthony's style has often been mistaken for airbrush. Many people often have to do a double take while observing his work, for fear of missing something.

Anthony's goals for the future include owning his own gallery and continuing to mentor young people and help them stive in the World of Fine Arts.
